Our Little Ball Player

Brodey is an Oakland A this year! This is our first season at Oregon Park, and so far we are having a great time! Brodey has played in four games and gets better each week. During games the coach pitches 5 balls and if they don't hit it they get to use the tee. He is doing great batting, but sometimes needs reminders about running. He gets so excited when he hits the ball and is too busy checking to make sure we all saw and forgets to run. Hilarious. Being on first and third isn't so bad because there are coaches there to tell him when to run.. but when he's out on second base you just never know what's going to happen. Sometimes he runs.... and sometimes he just stands there looking around and giving me the thumbs up when ALL the parents are yelling for him to run... so funny. We have seen him play all over the outfield and in this last game he played short stop... he did so great! One little mishap where he thought he was supposed to run to third with the runner instead of tagging him out... again, soooo fun to watch. All the little players are soooo cute and little out there on that field. Love it! The best part is, after EVERY game, no matter how he did, he runs over to us with a big smile and says: "I DID SO GOOD!! That was SO MUCH FUN!!". Looooove it. I love baseball... so glad he does too.

Last T-ball practice

The boys had their last TBall practice of the season last night. Cooper and Brodey did great and seemed to have fun. Here they are playing catch before their coaches arrived.
During practice Lyla showed us her newest skill... pulling up to standing ALL BY HERSELF. She is also officially doing a "real" crawl... no more army crawl.
And Brock. Well... watch the video... (he dressed himself in the random 80's attire)

First T-Ball game

Saturday June 20th was the boy's first ever T-Ball game. It was awesome.
Here they are getting ready for the big game...
Cooper??
Hey... Cooper...
Coop??
There he is!
Brodey's first big hit of the game...
And Brock's... (again with the pink bat)
Lyla was so excited!! Both brothers on base!! (after hitting the ball they both ran straight out to the pitchers mound. Every time. Brock successfully made it to second base in one inning only to run back to first (via the pitchers mound again) after the next batter. Very fun!)
Her fellow cheerleader Maddy was equally excited...
After the game the boys sat down to talk it out and have some juice.
And Brock surprisingly had enough energy left over to come home and cut the grass.

T-Ball practice

T-ball is just getting more and more entertaining. For the first half of practice NEITHER one of them wanted to participate AT ALL. Daddy had to stand out there with them just to keep them from running off the field.
Then they had to potty so they threw their gloves down and marched off.. right in the middle of practice! I took a picture of their gloves deserted out there in the outfield.
They must have had a serious conversation with daddy in the bathroom about their participation because they were gone a long time and when they came back they did MUCH better.

They both did really well hitting the ball off the Tee and running the bases. They even fielded (is that a word??) the ball a couple of times!

Brock got a little distracted while waiting for a ball to come his way.... I imagine that will happen a lot.

Brock was also very disappointed to learn he had to run to 1st base instead of running after the ball when he hit it. He had a minor meltdown the first time the other kids beat him to the ball, but eventually ran to 1st. (and it was hilarious. I LOVE the way he runs)

Brodey would give me a big thumbs up every time he successfully made it to the correct base. Love it.
They finished out strong with a huddle and a big "GO BRAVES!" at the end. Both said they had a fun time.. hopefully they will keep getting better at participating from here!

My little T-Ball players!

Last night was the boys first ever T-Ball practice! They are so grown up!!
We got to the field a little early so we let the boys run around and play (with their cousin and best bud Cooper). I think they were later disappointed to learn the soccer goal was not used for T-ball.. and poor Cooper didn't get to use his "football bat" and there was no "golf club" for Brock to use. So much to learn!
It was VERY hot and the boys were pretty crabby by the time things got started (especially Brock and Cooper who also missed their nap on this day) but they all did pretty well.

For this practice the coaches were assessing their "skills" to determine what team to put them on. They had little score cards that the coaches rated them on Fielding, Batting, Throwing, and catching. Brock wanted nothing to do with any of it at first, but by the end was getting more into it. In the batting section he hit both balls that were pitched to him and one off the Tee. He got a "4" out of 5 in this area. Not bad for an almost 3 year old! (oh, and he choose to use the only pink bat available.)
Brodey did a great job doing what the coaches told him to do and did really well in fielding and throwing. And looked soo sooo cute. :)

We are not too sure if Brock is right handed or left handed. He bats both ways equally well and normally throws with his right. Last night however he would catch with his left hand, then take is glove off and throw with his left hand also. Very interesting.

They have their first game next Saturday at 9am! Can't wait!

T-ball

me: "BROCK! I just signed you up for T-Ball!!"

Brock: (very excited) "I will play t-ball with Bwodey? I will use a bat!! And a golf club!!"

Obviously we have a few basics to go over before the season starts.
